PGL Environmental Consultants’ Vancouver office is seeking an Entry/Junior Level Environmental Consultant who is interested in working in a fast-paced environment.
 
The Environmental Consultant in the Contaminated Sites Group will be involved with the planning, and execution of projects at an entry/junior level.  Projects will vary and will include field investigation, data collection and management and environmental assessments.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Soil, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapour sampling;
  • Drilling investigations (Phase II ESAs);
  • Site remediation;
  • Budgeting, reporting;
  • Reviewing policies and systems; and
  • Contributing to PGL’s corporate initiatives.
 
As training progresses, you will be expected to supervise remediation and drilling contractors.  Hands on experience in the field will progress towards project management, directing others in the field and preparing reports.  As your career develops, report writing and client contact will become an important component of the position. Ideally we are seeking candidates with strong people skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Interest in gaining consulting experience is required.
 
Job Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering or Science (environmental, geological, geotechnical, chemical).
  • 0 - 2 years of consulting experience with exposure to contaminated site assessments.
  • Comfortable working on job sites (including but not limited to construction sites, gas stations, around traffic and heavy equipment).
  • Experience with soil and groundwater testing is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Ability to register as a professional (in-training) in the Province of BC is an asset (EIT, GIT, A.Ag., etc.).
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products. Knowledge of EsDat is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Excellent internal and external client service skills.
  • Valid Driver’s license, with a clear driving record, in BC is required.
  • Ability to travel and work in potentially remote locations, generally in the province of BC.
  • Ability to work hours based on project requirements.
  • Willingness to work on out-of-town projects/job sites for up to a week at a time. Sometimes for multiple weeks.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 20 lbs for short durations.
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to perform QA/QC on work products.
  • A working knowledge of and ability to interpret Ontario and Canadian environmental regulations, guidelines and standards is an asset.
