PGL Environmental Consultants (PGL) is seeking a Junior or Intermediate Human Environment Specialistwho can help our team and our clients identify, mitigate, and monitor impacts of major projects on the well-being of individuals, families, communities, and cultures.
The person hired for this role will work mainly with our Indigenous clients as they engage on major projects through Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) processes (including project evaluation, construction, and operation).
Depending on your interests and client needs, you may also provide a supporting role in government-to-government negotiations, resource management planning, land use studies, socio-cultural studies, policy development, and community-based monitoring programs.
We are seeking an individual with a background related to human-environment interactions. This may be through education or lived experience. They have knowledge of the regulatory and Indigenous context of development in Canada and awareness of Environmental Impact Assessment and permitting context.
They will be looking to apply and grow their knowledge in a variety of project types and enjoy the diversity offered by environmental consulting.

Contribute as an author to multiple documents (memos, reports, management plans, briefing notes, workshop proceedings, etc.) for multiple audiences (coworkers, regulators, client, or public).
Attend and support muti-party meetings in various ways, including through maintaining records and tracking and coordinating action items.
Contribute to internal process improvements, technical protocols, and team development.
Be able to participate in various types of environmental consulting projects as appropriate to the level of experience.
Job Requirements:
3 - 7 years of experience of applied work experience in your field;
Consulting skills that includetime management, teamwork, client service, communicating technical information in an understandable way (verbal and written), multi-tasking and people skills
Technical skills or qualifications (to include some or all of the following):
Social science, human geography, or environmental discipline (university degree or lived experience) with focus on the human dimension;
Experience researching and interpreting Indigenous Rights and UNDRIP within the context of the Canadian resource economy;
Knowledge of environmental and land use policies and regulations for development in Canada;
Experience collecting and working with Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous land use information, understanding the context of western scientific disciplines, and supporting Indigenous decision making;
Literacy or aptitude in EIA process and methods in Canada;
Knowledge of environmental, socioeconomic, or cultural studies following ethical standards of practices;
Excellent client service and networking skills an asset;
Willingness to travel to our clients’ communities to conduct work as needed; and
A valid driver’s license.

Professional accreditation is desirable, if applicable to your field;
