Junior Biologist

PGL Environmental Consultants (PGL) is seeking a Junior Biologist to join our Victoria office. PGL employees work a 37.5-hour work week and have the flexibility to work part-time from home or out of the Victoria office.  
 
This role will be part of our Environmental Planning Group, which is an established, experienced group of mostly long-tenured professionals servicing our diverse clients in a variety of sectors (e.g., urban and resource development, Indigenous groups, government, etc.). The role will be involved with the planning and execution of projects at a junior/intermediate level. Projects will vary and include compliance/environmental monitoring, field surveys, bird surveys, fish/amphibian salvage, data collection, environmental permitting, and reporting. Under the supervision of senior professionals and technical experts, this role will work within a project team that may include our clients, regulators, and stakeholders to plan and coordinate the completion of environmental projects to meet our clients’ needs. 

Responsibilities
•    Working with project teams and our clients to deliver work according to budgets and timelines to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
•    Participating in field investigations and data collection, as required, including fish, wildlife, and vegetation assessments and/or salvage.
•    Involvement in a variety of phases of project work including fieldwork, environmental permitting, data compilation, data analysis, and reporting.
•    Contributing to the continual improvement of our internal policies and practices.
•    Progressive growth as a consultant and professional, such as advancement of business development, writing, and project management skills.
•    Contributing to the growth of our PGL community.

Job Requirements
•    Undergraduate degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
•    3+ years of industry or consulting experience (required) in a related role.
•    Eligible or in the process of becoming eligible for professional registration (i.e., B.I.T., R.P.Bio., R.B.Tech., or equivalent).
•    Basic consulting skills: time management, teamwork, client service, communicating technical information in an understandable way (verbal and written), multi-tasking, and people skills.
•    Working knowledge of and ability to interpret municipal (Lower Mainland), provincial (BC), and federal (Canada) environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards.
•    Enjoys the outdoors and able to handle everything that mother nature throws at you.
•    Excellent problem-solving skills.
•    Knowledge of local flora and fauna is an asset. 
•    Results driven but lighthearted and fun.
•    Electrofishing certification (crew or leader) (preferred).
•    Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products.
•    Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 25 lbs. for short durations.
•    Valid driver’s license.
