We’re looking to hire an Environmental Consultant, with a background in Environmental Permitting, Planning and Consultation to join our Calgary Office. This role will be part of our Environmental Planning Group (EPG), servicing clients in diverse industries.
The role is responsible for scoping, conducting, and coordinating diverse environmental studies, as well as analyzing data and preparing reports for environmental impact assessments and other environmental permitting projects. Under the supervision of senior environmental professionals, this role will work within a team and with our clients, regulators, and stakeholders to plan and coordinate the completion of environmental projects to meet our clients’ needs.
We are ideally seeking a registered professional with diverse technical skills (i.e., vegetation, fish and/or wildlife) and consulting skills (project management, client service, communications, business development).
Responsibilities
Coordinating and executing environmental planning projects (e.g., terrestrial, or aquatic ecology, or other environmental field) following approved work scopes and guidelines.
Working with clients to establish scope of work and budgets to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
Preparing reports describing site conditions, impact assessments, and environmental management plans.
Technical fieldwork, depending on area of expertise.
Environmental Impact Assessment, background research, and report writing.
Project management and client and regulatory communications.
You will be expected to work both independently and within project groups, undertaking tasks from start to finish with full team support. Hands on fieldwork will be mixed with project management, direction of others in the field and preparation of reports. As your career develops, business development and client contact will become an important component of your role. We are seeking candidates with strong people and teamwork skills.
Job Requirements
5-10 years of experience consulting in Environmental Planning and Permitting.
Registered ProfessionalBiologist (R.P.Bio.), or other similar professional accreditation (or eligible for professional registration).
Consulting skills: project management, client service, verbal and written communications, and business development skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in Environmental Impact Assessment process and methods within a municipal, provincial, and federal context would be an asset.
Knowledge of environmental policies and regulations for development in Alberta.
Assessment skills in urban areas in Alberta and remote field skills.
Experience conducting vegetation, wildlife, terrestrial ecology, fisheries, or aquatic ecology studies following standard guidelines and practices.
Excellent client service skills, with client networking skills an asset.
Able to travel and work in remote and rugged field locations, hiking terrain for long distances with equipment, generally in Western Canada.
Experience working with First Nations as clients and/or partners in environmental work is desirable.
Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products
First aid training (ideal, but will provide).
Good technical writing skills.
Valid driver’s license.
